Nevertheless, for a large number of people, the system of visiting the voting booth on the Election Day for casting votes is not that great. This is because such people are of the view that when the internet gives them the flexibility of casting their votes online then why do they need to visit the polling booths. But several factors need to be considered regarding the security of this highly advanced system of electronic voting. For the time being, the electronic voting machines used in many nations are to a significant advantage.

Electronic voting machines can be defined as the facilitators of secure and smooth elections in a large number of countries. They have contributed quite a lot in making it easy for the people to cast their votes and for the authorities to carry out elections in the smoothest way possible. From ensuring flawless vote counting to introducing convenience throughout the electrical procedure, these machines have proved to be far better replacements to the old paper ballot systems. There can be absolutely no doubt in the fact that these machines have completely revolutionized the voting system in many countries. But one thing that cannot be denied about these machines is that they have also brought in some challenges questioning their effectiveness. There are several advantages and disadvantages of using electronic voting machines, and we will have a look at them below:

Advantages of Electronic Voting Machines

E-voting is an electronic system that makes way for elections that allow the voters to cast their votes secretly and securely. In the present times, experienced and skilled engineers have used different new technologies for improving the feasibility and the effectiveness of the electronic voting machines. Moreover, the use of these machines during elections has made it convenient for the voters to cast their votes without having to go through any hassle. There is well-designed software that takes care of everything. It takes minimal skill and time to complete the voting procedure. The use of electronic voting machines helps in saving a lot of money. This is because the election authorities do not need to hire the services of individuals for carrying out the manual counting of votes or for carrying out the entire voting procedure.   There is no expense for administration fee and location management. Thus, there are fewer costs involved during the voting process.

Disadvantages of Electronic Voting Machines

The only disadvantage of using an electronic voting machine is the virus that can attack the machine resulting in the complete breakdown of the machine. This can significantly hamper the voting procedure.

In addition to writing blogs, I am also a mechanical engineer working in the field of building, repairing and maintaining different types of machines. I want to share a story with all of you about the recent experiences that I have had in the field of machines along with my reflections and thoughts on it. I am just hoping that I am not the only one being affected mentally and physically while working in this field. I know that many other individuals are facing the same problem that I am facing at present and we obviously want a solution for this.

To start off, I will detail something about myself. I am a mechanical engineer, and I am involved in building new machines, repairing different machines and even maintaining them in the best way possible. I am involved in some mechanical events and roles. I also like to consider myself as one of the most active parts of the community that I live in whether by way of technical or social areas. It is only because I was a machine fanatic right from my childhood that I went into mechanical engineering. I am well aware of different types of engines and can always bring you the details of the different kinds available. I possess a degree in machine parts development and testing. So, why is all this important? This is because I want to share with you a story of the internal or the mental struggle that I am going through while working as a mechanical engineer. I am quite sure that many of us face questions like “What are the steps that I need to take towards success? What am I doing here? What are the things that make me happy and am I going to be comfortable working on machines the rest of my life”? All these questions are very well-loaded, and I am not sure whether I can answer all of them.

Why I am not satisfied?

Most of the times, I question my sense of belonging to this career. Of course, I am fond of my work culture and community. I have made good progress in this field, and I have also made a name among my peers and employers. And yet, I cannot help, but I have this feeling that I am not fit to be a Mechanical Engineer. I have the skills and the education needed for serving this field but the pressure and the stress that I need to go through every day, brings me down and I feel as if I will not be able to give my best while working in this field.  I know that I am working in an industry that I have always been interested in my entire life. But at the same time, I feel that I have not learned anything new except the information and the exposure that I have got on certain subsets of the specific industry standards. I am going through a lot of pressure, and I know that more challenges are waiting, but still, I want to continue. This is because I have a firm belief in myself and I know that the decisions I make will be safe.


Mechanical engineers are professionals working on machines. They are skilled workers who carry out the task of building, repairing and maintaining different varieties of devices. If you happen to ask any mechanical engineer about his or her mental condition, he or she will tell you one common phrase, and that is: I am completely stressed out”. Stress is something that is commonly found on the faces of individuals engaged in machine-related activities and jobs. Lack of proper sleep and mental stress get portrayed in slouched backs, tense shoulders and physical aches. Sometimes the stress and the pressure induced from long working hours can develop into more complicated and pressing problems like eating disorders, anxiety, and depression. It has been found through studies that around 8.4% of full-time mechanical workers experience depressive episodes.

Panic Attacks are Common in Mechanical Engineers

Mechanical engineers or the ones engaged in the development and repair of different varieties of machines tend to experience major panic attacks. They get hit by a certain overwhelming sensation of tension and stress from all their required assignments and work pressures. They also suffer from the anxiety of whether they have the ability to finish their tasks on time or not. Many machine workers and engineers also face the fear of not being able to perform well at their jobs disappointing themselves and their peers. What is more alarming is that this problem among mechanical engineers does not get any attention and there are no efforts made in getting the right treatment for this condition. Things are hopeless for these professionals.

Major Mental and Physical Health Consequences for Female Workers

The industry for developing, repairing and maintaining machines is an industry that is largely dominated by men. This is because many girls do not choose this field thinking that they would have a tough time handling and developing machines and they are delicate enough to handle machines. However, this is something that is being done away by the modern women choosing to develop machines by undergoing specialized courses and training in this field. However, the sad thing is that even for the women who have this guts to choose the mechanical field, it is quite challenging to cope up with the mental pressure that they need to go through on a regular basis. Several emotional issues tend to affect the female engineers. They are the minority in this field, and hence they need to face gender bias. This makes women feel that they need to prove themselves to their employers and their male counterparts. The majority of the companies and heads of departments are men. Thus, women lack female companionship resulting in feelings of loneliness and isolation.

What needs to be done?

So, what are the measures that can be taken for safeguarding the mental health of individuals, both men, and women, engaged in the development, repair, and maintenance of different types of machines? In this situation, psychological services and counseling centers can come up with great support because they offer the help needed in work-related problems and with depression. There are no coping mechanisms for mechanical engineers. The only thing that they can do is unwind after work while taking assignments and work-related pressure out of their minds.
